It is with profound sadness that we share the passing of André “Dadou” Pasquet, the legendary guitarist, singer, and composer who co-founded the iconic Magnum Band. His loss marks the end of an era for Haitian music and for countless fans around the world who were moved by his talent, his humility, and his spirit.
Dadou Pasquet was more than a musician — he was a bridge between generations, a visionary whose guitar lines carried both elegance and soul. Born into a deeply musical family, he first made waves as a young guitarist with Tabou Combo before joining his brother, Claude “Tico” Pasquet, to form Magnum Band in 1976.
Throughout his remarkable career, Dadou shaped the sound of modern kompa (konpa) with grace, innovation, and emotional depth. He blended traditional Haitian rhythms with jazz, funk, soul, and more — always with a refined touch that made his guitar sing. His playing wasn’t just technically impressive; it was poetic, conversational, and deeply human.
As a composer and bandleader, Dadou left behind a legacy of songs that continue to resonate across the globe — from intimate family gatherings to the stages of international tours. Magnum Band became a symbol of Haitian musical excellence, and Dadou’s artistic voice helped define its identity for decades.
Beyond his musical gifts, Dadou was admired for his humility. Colleagues and fans often spoke of his calm presence, his integrity, and the way he approached music as a calling rather than a show. In his final message, he left behind a simple, powerful request: “Jwe mizik lan” play the music.
To his family — to his brother Tico, his loved ones, and the extended Magnum Band family — we extend our deepest condolences. The grief of losing such an influential and beloved soul is unthinkable, and yet we hope you find some solace in the knowledge that Dadou’s music continues to live in every note and every beat.
Though Dadou Pasquet has taken his final bow, his spirit endures in the melodies he created and the hearts he touched. His legacy is timeless, his influence immeasurable, and his music forever a source of joy, comfort, and pride.
Rest in peace, Maestro. Your strings may be still, but your song will never fade.
